Mike Davis

Keynote Speaker: Mike Davis

Professor of Creative Writing, UC Riverside

Mike Davis, acclaimed author and professor of Creative Writing  at UC Riverside, will present the keynote address, "Remembering Ward Moore and the Lawn That Ate L.A.", at the 2011 Eaton Science Fiction Conference on Saturday, February 12 at 4 p.m.

Davis is the author of more than 20 books, including City of Quartz, The Ecology of Fear, Planet of Slums, and more than 100 book chapters and essays in the scholarly and elite popular press. His works explore the linkages among social history, political economy, popular culture, and the processes of globalization.

Perhaps his best know book, City of Quartz: Excavating the Future in Los Angeles was named a best book in urban politics by the American Political Science Association and won the Isaac Deutscher Award from the London School of Economics. It has been translated into eight languages

Named a Macarthur Fellow in 1998, he has also been honored for distinguished achievement in nonfiction writing by the Lannan Literary Foundation.

More than 100 people are expected to present at the conference, ranging from well known authors like Nalo Hopkinson, China MiƩville, Karen Tei Yamashita, to literary critics to agents and book collectors.
