Howard Hendrix,

writer of science fiction and nonfiction who lives in Shaver Lake, California and teaches at California State University, Fresno. "I enjoyed these vividly imagined stories, especially their "retro-SF" elements and the ways that all of them incorporated diverse forms of popular culture into what is itself a popular cultural form."

Nalo Hopkinson,

science fiction and fantasy writer and a professor in the Creative Writing Department of the University of California Riverside. "This was my first time judging the competition, and I was pleased to see the variety of writing and submissions from so many of the UCs."
