MR. BRADBURY'S address will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 4:00PM in UCR Commons, Multipurpose Room . It is open to the public and free of charge. Seating is limited to 500, available on the "first-come, first-serve" basis. Doors open at 3:30PM. Afterwards Mr. Bradbury will sign his books (one book per person please). Books will be available for purchase during the conference.
If you wish to park on campus, the cost is $5; permits can be purchased at Information Kiosks located at University Avenue/West Campus Drive and Canyon Crest Drive/Martin Luther King Blvd.

 

MARS IN THE MOVIES: Since 1910, when Thomas Alva Edison photographed “A Trip to Mars”, the red planet Mars has been a favorite topic of over 120 feature films. On Friday, May 16 at 7:00PM Gerry Williams of the San Diego chapter of the Mars Society and creator of the MarsMovieGuide.com will take us on a multimedia tour of some of the best (as well as the worst) movies about Mars ever made.

 

A POETRY READING and OPEN MIKE for science fiction, fantasy, horror, science, and surreal poetry will take place on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The reading is free and open to the public.  Please arrive a few minutes early to sign-up to read. Scheduled readers include Geoffrey A. Landis, Mary Turzillo, g.o. clark, Denise Dumars, Stephen M. Wilson, and Ruth Nolan.
Science Fiction Poetry Association was founded in 1978 by Suzette Haden Elgin to further the exploration of speculative poetry, which the organization defines as poetry with a fantastical element whether it be science fiction, fantasy, horror, surreal, or new scientific discoveries.The reading will immediately follow a ceremony where SFPA officers Deborah P Kolodji (president), Samantha Henderson (treasurer), and Richard Gombert (publication archivist) will present their archives to the Eaton Collection.

 

WINNERS of the First Annual Science Fiction Short Story Contest will be announced on May 17, 2008 during the concluding conference session.
